The A 500 kW, 3-phase, 440 volts, 50 Hz, A.C. induction motor has a speed of 960 r.p.m. on full load and has 6 poles. The slip of the machine can be calculated by subtracting the synchronous speed from the full load speed. The synchronous speed for a 6-pole motor operated at 50 Hz is 1000 rpm, therefore the slip of the machine is 40 rpm (1000-960). This equates to a slip of 4%, which is considered normal for this type of motor.
