No, they are not the same. Freekeh is a roasted young grain, while farro is the complete wheat berry.
The dish you might see more often than farro in many restaurants across America– usually called “wheat berries” on the menu– is actually more closely related to freekeh than your typical farro dish. Whole-grain freekeh has been roasted before it was processed into its final form that resembles rice or couscous, while whole-grain farro has simply been steam-cooked then hulled and chopped into individual kernels rather than getting vacuum sealed for quick processing like some other rolled grains would be.
