There are a few key methods to eliminate the dark brown patch. We recommend the Oximetrex from DRKSHP. Look for drugstores like Walmart or Target.
The Oximetrex is applied on a damp clean, cotton pad and applied directly to the dark skin or areas of hyperpigmentation. Leave the Oximetrex on for 10-15 minutes or until dry and make sure to wash the affected area. If the patches fade on their own, we usually recommend reapplying 1-2 times per week.
What happens if I continue using retinoid?
I spoke to my dermatologist about what to do about using retinoid as a treatment for melasma. He told me that retinoids do work in treating melasma but they may not have the same effect after a period of time. He also pointed out that using a retinoid in combination with a melasma cream.
Tretinoin therapy is an important factor to consider but is often limited by its cost. If you have lots of hyperpigmentation, a combination topical retinoid cream or oral isotretinoin will be a helpful option. You should avoid side effects and common retinol side effects, including dryness, itching, and acne formation, by staying on the lowest dosage possible for a long time.
Hyperpigmentation treatment
For most people, melasma is associated with hyperpigmentation. Treatment for melasma can begin with broad spectrum-attributable phototherapy, as used for hyperpigmentation treatment, or with tretinoin (Dyasylics/Tazorac).
