How long does it take to boil eggs for different types of cooking? Boiled eggs are a great ingredient to use in a variety of recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even dessert. Test out the times below to see how long you will need for each type of cooking.

Different types of eggs need to be boiled for different lengths of time. The time required for boiling varies by the size of the eggs.

    • Eggs that are less than 50 grams need to be boiled for 5 minutes
    • Eggs that are between 50 and 70 grams need to be boiled for 4 minutes
    • Eggs that are between 70 and 100 grams need to be boiled for 3 minutes
    • Eggs that are over 100 grams need to be boiled for 2 minutes

Boiling eggs is an easily forgotten task, so make sure you have a timer to tell you when to take them off of the heat.

Boiled eggs will be perfectly cooked on either side if they are boiled for 10 minutes and then left for 10 more minutes. The egg white will be firm and opaque, while the yolk will still be runny and bright yellow. Eggs that are boiled for 15 minutes should also have a soft yolk.
