A star-delta starter is a common type of starter used to start 3-phase induction motors.
The voltage applied to the stator is reduced to 58% of the line voltage and the starting current is 33% of the full load current. The peak starting torque is also 33%. Star-delta starters are often used for applications where motor startup draws a high current demand.
