    In an induction motor if air-gap is increased.

    If the air gap in an induction motor is increased, the power factor of the motor will be reduced.

    This is because an increase in air gap causes an increase in reluctance, meaning more magneto-motive force is required to produce a given level of magnetizing current.

    As a result, the motor will draw more magnetizing current and the power factor will be lower. Additionally, increasing the air gap can help to increase the mechanical strength of the assembled core, avoid continuous gaps causing an increase in magnetizing current, and facilitate avoiding undue humming noise.
