Is betterhelp covered by insurance?

As a licensed psychologist, I often get asked whether Betterhelp is covered by insurance and, if so, how to go about obtaining reimbursement from your provider.

BetterHelp is a very affordable and highly recommended service. It’s always a good idea to contact your insurance provider to inquire whether they cover online therapy. If they provide coverage, it will be up to you to decide whether or not to use the service. Your insurance provider may offer a list of therapists that are “in network.” If this is the case, you will likely be able to see a therapist on BetterHelp who is covered by your plan.

BetterHelp is not covered by insurance. Some insurance providers cover counseling and therapy, but neither talk therapy nor online counseling are covered.

Yes it is. BetterHelp is covered by most insurance companies. Check your insurance plan to see if online therapy is covered. If you do not have insurance, you can still use online therapy. You can pay for online therapy with your credit/debit card.

If you’re wondering whether Betterhelp is covered by insurance, the answer may surprise you. While some people are sure that Betterhelp isn’t covered by insurance at all, this isn’t actually the case. It all depends on your coverage and your plan, so let’s go over the basics of what exactly insurance coverage is and why it matters for Betterhelp.
To find out if your insurance covers BetterHelp, contact your insurance provider directly and ask. They should be able to tell you which mental health professionals are covered under your plan. If not, call your doctor’s office to see if they have any recommendations. If you’re uninsured or not sure about coverage for in-person appointments (if no other options exist), then an online therapy program like BetterHelp is a great place to start. That said, it’s still worth it to check whether in-person visits are covered—you may end up finding that both programs work well for your situation!
