Raja Ram Mohan Roy established the Brahmo Samaj in 1828, in response to the prevailing Brahmanism at the time. Founded in Kolkata, the main objective of this religious and social movement was to worship the everlasting God.
Roy was a social reformer, who played a significant role in the abolition of Sati. He was also known as the Father of modern India and was one of the leading figures of the Brahmo Sabha.
His efforts to reform Indian society were revolutionary and had lasting effects.
