You may have heard of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP). It was established in 1962, shortly after the India-China war began. The purpose of ITBP was to protect the 3,488 km long Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China.
The ITBP is one of five Central Armed Police Forces of India and is tasked with the surveillance of the northern borders and the detection and prevention of any illegal activities.
It recruits both male and female combat officers through an all-India examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.
The major training center of ITBP is located at Mussoorie, in Uttarakhand and it has been established since 1976.
The force also holds an annual celebration to mark its dedication to defending the borders.
