The major drawback of frequency multipliers is that they increase the noise factor along with the frequency.

This can be a problem for applications such as communications circuits and frequency synthesizers, as the increased noise could lead to undesired results. Additionally, frequency multipliers are sensitive to frequency, meaning that the output is dependent on the input frequency.

This can make it difficult to use them in applications that require a wide range of frequencies. Finally, spurious products that are present on an incoming signal will increase in level when they are multiplied by the multiplier, causing further issues.
