You may have heard that atoms are made up of a nucleus and electrons. The nucleus is the positively charged center of the atom, and it is composed of protons and neutrons.
Protons have a positive charge equal in magnitude to the electron’s negative charge, and neutrons are uncharged particles. Together, these particles form the nucleus of an atom, and the number of protons in the nucleus determines the chemical element.
