The Answer Is . B
The purpose of using short-circuit gear in a Slip Ring Induction Motor is to connect the rotor 3-phase winding to an external circuit. This allows the motor to produce power when the rotor has run up and the asynchronous motor with the short-circuited rotor winding and raised brushes can run. The short-circuit gear also serves to short-circuit the starting resistances in the starter. This helps reduce the starting current of the motor and makes it easier to start the motor. In addition, slip rings, brush gear, short-circuiting devices and starting resistance are also required for the motor to be able to start with a star-delta connection. The short-circuit gear also helps to automatically short-circuit the slip rings when the motor is running.
