Emails are preferred formal communication channel for professionals and personals as it serves simple, secure, and direct communication between companies or persons internally and externally.
The email media has a set of rules such as To, CC, BCC fields to happen communication between two persons. Let’s talk about what does CC means in emails.
What does CC mean?
In email sending, CC stands for “Carbon Copy”.
you may have seen the term CC as shown in the below screenshot when you’re composing an email and it stands for “Carbon Copy”.
The term comes from way back in the day before computers were around secretaries. For instance, would be typing on a typewriter and they would use carbon paper and if they press hard enough on the keys, they can make more than one copy to distribute more people.
The same idea still applies to online on your Gmail or other email apps. So the reason why we want to use CC in your emails. Perhaps, you’re sending an email to someone but you would like other people to be included in the conversation, but they’re not necessarily the intended recipient so you would like to add them in the CC field. That way they can see the conversation to the recipient and everyone can see each other’s email addresses and email details. So this is how you add CC in you’re composed email.
