LAN and WAN are the types of Network .

Local Area Network(LAN) is a type of network that connects computers and devices within limited area like an office, a building, Institutions, schools, college etc. LAN is private  network owned by a single organization.

Wide Area Network(WAN) is a network covers multiple geographic area such as states or countries which is composed of multiple LANs. and it is widely used in the field of Business, government and education. It is not limited to a single location, but it spans over larger geographical area through a telephone line, fiber optic cable or satellite links. example for wan is Mobile Broadband connection,

Metropolitan Area Network(MAN) is a network that covers a larger geographic area by interconnecting a different LAN to form a larger network. like government agencies use MAN to connect to the citizens and private industries, In MAN various LANs are connected to each other through a telephone exchange line.

Personal Area Network(PAN) is a network arranged within an individual person, typically within range of 10 meters. personal computer devices that are used to develop the personal area network are the laptop, mobile phones, media player etc.
