Answer: Probation officers are officers of the court. They have various duties such as:

When a person is found guilty of a crime, he or she may be required to spend time in prison. This is called “probation”. If someone does not go to prison after serving their sentence, they are usually described as “post-release supervision”. Probation officers do not have any legal authority and do not commit crimes. They only serve their time by helping people who have been convicted of crimes or who are under some form of supervision after being released from prison.

Most probation officers work for local authorities and county governments. They make sure that people who are on parole or probation do not commit crimes again by supervising them when they leave the facility in which they were placed before being sentenced to probation.
