Data consumption in different devices and in different time zones has been growing exponentially. In order to make sense of the data usage, we need to measure it in MB or GB.
MB is a smaller unit. It is used for measuring data usage on mobile devices and PCs. As CDs are used to store music, MBs are also used for storing digital information on storage devices like hard drives, memory cards or flash drives.
GB stands for gigabyte. It is a bigger unit than MB that measures data usage on servers and network equipment like routers, switches, firewalls and storage systems.
Data Usage is measured in KB, MB, GB & TB
1 KiloByte(KB) = 1024 bytes
1 MegaByte(MB) = 1024 Kilobytes
1 GigaByte(GB) = 1024 Megabytes
1 TeraByte(TB) = 1024 Gigabytes
The difference between a megabyte (MB) and gigabyte (GB) is simple. A MB is one million bytes while a GB is one billion bytes. When it comes to the size of digital files, one MB can fit into a standard DVD while a GB can fit into eight DVDs.
Data usage in computers refers to the amount of data that is used by an application or device. MB stands for “megabyte” which is a unit of measurement of data storage capacity equivalent to 1,000,000 bytes. GB stands for “gigabyte” a unit of measurement of data storage capacity equivalent to 1,000,000,000 bytes.
