Answer: A nephew is a son of the brother or sister. In most cases, a nephew is the male version of a niece.
In most cases, a nephew is the male version of a niece. This can be confusing to people who are not aware of this law. It has been known for centuries that “a son of the brother or sister” does not necessarily mean that the two people are related by blood.
In the past, a nephew was an uncle’s child. In some countries, a niece is a niece and not an aunt or uncle. A niece is an exactly opposite gender of an nephew. In other words, in the beginning of the 20th century nephews were attached to the parents. Some countries such as Switzerland and Israel still have this practice, but most countries have abolished it and replaced it with niece or nephews (Nephews).
