The health insurance market has taken on a pell-mell of permutations in the past few years, making it hard to know which health plan is best for you. So before you sign up for health insurance or switch health plans, ask these five basic questions of your provider:
1) What type of coverage am I getting?
2) Will this plan cover everything my doctor says I need?
3) Can I see any doctor that agrees to treat patients within the network without prior approval from my health plan?
4) Does this health care plan have an out-of-network clause that would require me to get preauthorization for more than just emergency services outside the network?
5) What are my copays and health insurance deductibles?
