      Embedded systems are everywhere. Most of them are not very complex, but contain advanced technology in their small form. They are also called “small-scale” because they do not take up a large percentage of the total processing power.

      Small-scale embedded systems can be made more complex by using them as adapters to external hardware and software. Some examples of small-scale embedded systems that we have seen in our life include:

      A hand-held communicator, such as the Motorola Back to the Future communicator from 1985, or the handheld game controller of the SEGA Genesis, or the Palm Pilot from around 1996. The Palm Pilot was a very simple device that allowed its user to use their hands to type and input text, but it had no screen, and couldn’t display any graphical applications.
