You may be wondering who founded the Prarthana Samaj, a movement for religious and social reform in Bombay. The answer is Atmaram Pandurang.
Prarthana Samaj was established on 31 March 1867 in Bombay by Atmaram Panduranga. This Samaj was greatly influenced by the Brahmo Samaj and theistic worship is the main focus of Prarthana Samaj.
The building was inaugurated on August 22, 1874, though the organization had been formed on December 17, 1871, by progressive Amdavadis — all under the leadership of Atmaram Pandurang.
